Barbara Ann wasn’t actually written by the Beach Boys. It was written by Fred Fassert and was about his sister Barbara Ann Fassert. The Beach Boys version became the more popular one, and reached No.2 on the Billboard 100.
The song sounded very much like “Bomb Bomb Iran.” So during the height of the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis, it was used by protesters and parodied as such by several musicians.
