In Monopoly, how many houses are required before you can build a hotel?

The worst thing that can happen to a Monopoly player is to land on an opponent’s property with a hotel on it. If that happens, they can charge an exorbitant amount of rent, which will likely bankrupt the unlucky player if he/she is short on cash.

Hotels aren’t the only thing to worry about. Houses also allow a player to charge a lot of rent. A player should build houses before they can progress to a hotel.
