Which deadly disease was eradicated in 1979?
Some things from the 60s and 70s gave us joy and happy memories. And there are things that we’d rather forget. Smallpox disease was one of them. This horrible disease killed about 30% of the people that it infected. Even those that survived the virus were left with extensive scarring and, in some cases, blindness.
The disease was verified to be eradicated from the world by a group of scientists in 1979. It was the only human disease in history to have been eradicated. The smallpox virus still lives though, albeit in two highly secure labs – one in the United States and the other in Russia.
