Mr Potato Head occupies a momentous spot in the history of television, as it was the first toy ever advertised on TV. It heralded a new era in marketing, as previous commercials were only directed towards adults. It was shown on April 30, 1952, helping the toy to sell over a million kits in its first year. We are not sure though if the commercial came with a disclaimer stating that a real potato was not included.
