The 60s saw more than one high-profile assassination that succeeded. It was John F. Kennedy in 1963 and Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. The latter was assassinated by a gunman on March 29 while he was giving a speech on a balcony in Memphis, Tennessee in support of black sanitary public works employees.
The assassination of MLK caused a string of riots all over the United States. The riots cost the lives of about 40 people and caused untold damages to property.
