February 22, 1980 – The Cold War hasn’t ended yet. And The US was hosting the Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York. During the Semi-Final Round, the American team, mainly made up of young amateur college players, met the Soviet Union, who were four-time defending gold-medalists, and whose team was made up of veteran professional players.The legendary players from the Soviet team included the likes of Boris Mikhailov, Vladislav Tretiak, Valeri Kharlamov.
What happened was one of the greatest upsets in sports history; with the US winning 4-3. It was immortalized by the last call of commentator, Al Michaels, who famously declared in the final seconds of the game: “Do You Believe in Miracles? YES!”
