Who was known as the “King of Comedy” during the 50s?

Jerry Lewis was a comedian, actor, director and producer known as the “King of Comedy.” He had a famous partnership with singer Dean Martin, and they formed a duo with Martin often singing and Lewis doing clownish antics. They featured in a total of 16 films together, including “My Friend Irma,” and “The Stooge.” Unfortunately they had a falling out and split in 1956. Lewis continued to have a successful solo career. And one of his well-known films was the original “The Nutty Professor.”
