Who was the creator of the toy Mr. Potato Head?
Mr Potato Head was one of the most popular toys of the 50s. It was created by George Lerner in 1949. It originated from his hobby where he would take potatoes from his mother’s garden, and then decorate them with fruits to vegetables to make them as dolls for his younger sisters.
The first sets of Mr Potato Head hit the market on May 1, 1952. It came as a kit that contained numerous body parts. But it did not come with its own body. The children will have to provide their own real potatoes. It would be only in 1964, after several concerns and complaints by parents about rotting vegetables, that Hasbro would provide a plastic potato body with the kit.
