Who was the first US president to give a televised address to the nation?
Americans saw their president on TV for the first time on October 5, 1947, when President Harry Truman appeared before the American people to ask them to reduce their grain usage to help starving Europeans. Europe was facing famine at that time in the aftermath of World War 2.
Back then, television was a fresh invention and not many people had one in their homes. Did you have one when Truman gave his address and do you remember watching it?
