Who would you prefer to have around the house?

Female superheroes took on a different form in the sixties, as exemplified by Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie.

Jeannie

the genie in a bottle.

Samantha

the nose-twitching witch

Jeannie, from the sitcom series “I Dream of Jeannie” that originally aired on NBC from September 18, 1965, to May 26, 1970, is actually a genie who is 2000 years old. She fell in love with an astronaut named Tony Nelson, who freed her from her bottle after rubbing it. She often tries to help and please him, which sometimes has unintended consequences.

Samantha is a witch from a rival sitcom show named Bewitched, which aired on ABC from September 17, 1964, to March 25, 1972. It is one of the most popular shows in American television history. The main plot of the show is how Samantha marries a mortal man and tries to lead a normal life of a suburban housewife – something that proves difficult due to the efforts of her magical family, who disapproved of the marriage. According to the show’s lore, casting a spell requires a physical gesture – in the case of Samatha, it is a nose twitch.
